General Rules

-
Your costume must be handmade for this event and not store-bought. 17 and below are allowed to have assistance in making the costume from a parent or adult, but by entering the contest, you are using the Honor System to state that you did a majority of the work yourself. Entrants in the Junior category may wear an entirely store-bought costume.
-
Prop weapons are not allowed on school premises.
-
Your costume needs to be event friendly. This is a high school and we expect kids to be present. Your costume is expected to be appropriate for all ages.
-
Roleplaying is encouraged in Cosplay. Please keep roleplay to a family-friendly level as you compete and enjoy the day.
-
Cosplayers may choose to invent a new character or they may choose to present as an already existing character in any “Universe.”
-
You may cosplay as a group for the competition. The group will be entered into the category of the oldest cosplayer. The entrance fee is per person; a winning cosplay team can divide the prize as they see fit.
-
Entrants will cross the stage and take turns showing off their costumes to a live audience and the judges. There is no pre-judging round. No other props or scenery will be allowed on stage except for hand-held props. Entrants will not have access to a microphone, special lighting, or sound cues.
-
If any category has fewer than 3 entries, the competition portion of that category will be canceled and fees refunded. Entrants may still participate in the show!
Judging: Cosplayers will be rated by three judges on a scale of 1-10 (10 high) in both workmanship and performance. Cosplayers in the Junior Category will be given a participation award for bravery and imagination.
-
Workmanship - Entries are judged on both the overall appearance of their cosplay and the quality of the construction of the costume. Purchased costumes may not compete.
-
Groups will be given an average score of the workmanship category.
-
Performance - Entries are being judged on their acting, representation, and presence. In short, how well they can act like a certain character, how well they present themselves in their cosplay, etc. Groups are all assigned a single score for performance.
